THE FEMALE PARTNER – blood tests on cycle day 2 – cycle day 5

 

  • Thyroid stimulating hormone, (TSH)
  • Prolactin, (PL)
  • Follicle stimulating hormone, (FSH)
  • Luteinizing hormone(LH)
  • Anti-Mullerian hormone (AMH)
  • Estradiol (E2)

The levels of these hormones is useful for choice of specific drugs and protocols.

How to go about the test :

  • The lady has to report on the second or third day of the cycle for these blood tests.
  • The reports are returned the next day to the clinic.
  • The couple will be counseled regarding the results at the subsequent visit.
  • Medications will be prescribed to correct the hormonal imbalances.
  • The male partner. TSH is usually done The other hormones are ordered if there are any specific problems.
  • These hormones will indicate the type of ovulatory or sperm making disorder
  • Appropriate drugs can then be given

WHAT IS OVARIAN RESERVE :

The ovarian reserve is an estimation of the POTENTIAL OF THE OVARY to give meaningful eggs WHAT IS OVARIAN RESERVE

It is estimated by :

  • Blood tests. Day 2. FSH levels, Antimullerian hormone (AMH) on any day
  • The transvaginal scan is usually done on the 2nd or the 3rd day of menses. The small antral follicles are counted (AFC) and should be at least 6 to 8 in each ovary.
  • Response to ovarian stimulation drugs.

THE MALE PARTNER :

The same basic tests of hormones like TSH, Prolactin, FSH, LH & testosterone are done and correlated with the clinical and semen profiles.
